Courses taught at Al-Nour
We have a very clear goal in teaching the students with a competent group of teachers who spend hours preparing class activities. We aim to utilize modern teaching methods and strategies to accomplish our goals by using a variety of study materials including books, digital media, and an assortment of learning activities.
Qur’an: To emphasize learning how to read Qur’an, the Nourania/Baghdadia method of teaching/reading the Qur’an, focusing on proper pronunciation of Qur’an recitation. Starting with the original shape of the letter, moving up to connecting letters, vowels, long vowels, two-letter combinations, and three-letter combinations. Along with learning to read and write, students will also learn the meaning of common words or “sight words.” Teaching Qur’an consists of reading, memorization of short surahs, understanding simple and frequent words, and Tafseer (the general meaning). Teaching Qur’an allows for a practical application of what was learned in Arabic class.
Islamic Studies: The administration has adopted the “We are Muslims” book series. Lessons in each book are taught with an array of different activities with the purpose of instilling Islamic values, history, and the Seerah of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Lessons in Wudu and Salat will also be a priority.
There are six levels in the Weekend school based on the student’s age and their educational level. School is in session on Sundays from 11:00am to 1:30pm and will be held at the Islamic Center.
